Privacy Policy

GiantYardSale is a directory of yard sales in Canada and the United States. For privacy questions or to request access, correction, or deletion of your account, contact info@giantyardsale.com.

What we collect

We collect your sign-in email and account identifier, yard sale address and location, dates, hours, categories, optional photos, ratings, and reports. We record account creation and yard sale posting events with the account identifier, time, and IP address. Failed sign-ins, rate limits, and blocked requests may also be recorded for security. Ordinary page views are not recorded by our application as account activity. Our hosting provider may maintain its own access logs. IP addresses are encrypted at rest in these records. Event records are available only to administrators and are deleted after 30 days by automated cleanup. We estimate country, province or state, and city from the event IP using Geoapify. This is a network location estimate, may be incorrect or affected by a VPN, and is not an exact home location. The approximate signup location is kept with your account until account deletion. Temporary IP bans expire within seven days. We do not record search text, passwords, sign-in codes, or session cookies in these security records. We do not publish your email address.

What becomes public

Yard sale details, photos, ratings, and general map areas are public while a listing is available. You choose to publish the exact address immediately or 24 hours before the first opening. The exact address is removed from our public responses when the yard sale closes. You may explicitly include your street address early in downloaded signs or social images without changing its release time on the website. Downloaded or shared files cannot be recalled. Other people may have saved information that was previously public.

Optional public profile

You can submit a display name and profile photo. They are visible only to you and administrators while awaiting approval. Approved names and photos appear with your yard sale listings. Updates require another review; your previously approved profile stays visible while they are reviewed. You can remove your public profile in My profile. We do not publish your sign-in email.

Location and photos

Your browser asks permission before sharing your device location. You may search manually instead. If you use device location, Geoapify receives the coordinates to suggest a search area. Posting requires a separate street address search and map confirmation. We remember your selected search area and up to six recent place searches on this browser for 90 days. You can clear recent searches from the search dropdown. We do not store search history with your account. If you post again, we can prefill the address from your own latest listing after you sign in. When approximate IP location is enabled, our location provider receives your IP address to suggest an area. We remove embedded photo metadata when processing uploaded photos; identifying details visible in a photo remain visible.

Service providers and storage

SiteGround hosts the website. Supabase processes authentication, database records, and photos. Geoapify supplies maps and address search. Cloudflare Turnstile protects sign-in against automated abuse; its Turnstile Privacy Addendum describes the information it processes. Resend delivers transactional listing confirmations, reminders, and moderation notices when configured. Email delivery jobs, including recipient and message content, are kept privately for up to 30 days after completion. Failed jobs also appear in Admin. Emails contain listing details, including the street address, and are sent to the seller and site administrator as applicable. These providers process the information needed for their services, potentially outside your province or country, depending on the configured hosting regions.

Cookies and retention

We use essential sign-in cookies and browser storage for your selected area. This version has no advertising or third-party analytics trackers. Listings, ratings, and moderation records remain in the private database until removed by the administrator. You can request deletion; limited records may be retained where needed to address abuse or meet applicable obligations. Backups may retain deleted records until their retention period ends.

Optional neighbourhood emails

If you opt in after verifying your email, we store your chosen search area, radius, time zone, and consent time. We send a daily roundup at 7 a.m. in that area when matching yard sales are available. Only released street addresses are included. This subscription is optional and is separate from account and listing service notices. Use the unsubscribe link in any roundup or manage your area in Email notices. Your subscription settings remain with your account until deletion, including after unsubscribing.

Your choices

You can edit or cancel your yard sale, decline device location access, choose delayed address disclosure, and request account deletion through info@giantyardsale.com. Clearing browser storage removes your saved search area.
